Hi,

We have around 200 functional location (having 3 structure indicators) and 10,000 equipments (Having external number range) on a controlling area and on different company codes.

Several orders have been created by this data and now company wants to change controlling area, company codes, maintenance plants and planning plants with having old data in the same system server and client.

I want to know is it possible to create same codes functional locations and equipments on new maintenance plants and planning plants having new company codes and controlling area? (It has observed that once we assign maintenance plant, the system automatically picks company code and controlling area and these fields become highlighted and can't be changed) OR

Is there any possibility to use old data in orders with reference of new plants company codes and controlling area?

What will be the end solution, should I create the new structure indicators for functional locations and new equipment names that must not be matched with the old equipments?

Regards,

Hi,

In similar situation I created new functional locations and changed equipment master data (Changed maintenance plant, planning plant and installed at new functional locations).

For arriving at best solution the following points are to be considered.

1. Existing naming convention of Functional locations

2. Will third party services are in use for Equipment maintenance.

3. Is Equipment number is painted on Equipment?

4. Changing equipment label is acceptable? as external number is adopted

5. What you are going to do with old plants

Hi,

If its a permanent change You could use the same FL and Equipment and just change the data within it . This will enable the old history to be available on the master data for analysis purpose.

However if the old company code /Plant is used in the FL structure itself or part of External number for equipment number is based on the equipment number, it may result in a training issue.

Hi,

Thanks for prompt reply,

a) If we change permanently then you mean to say the old master data record will remain in the system with all old transaction data, please confirm?

**b)Alternatively, can I create same (exactly like old codes) functional locations and equipments codes on new maintenance plants (having new company coded and controlling area)?**

      • I will have same client and server for the whole scenario

Please reply soon

Best Regards,

Hi

I suppose you should go with 1st option. You should change the data in the existing FL and equipments. You May create a CATT script or eCATT script or an LSMW and do the changes in the Masterdata.

Second Option can be achieved may be by restructuring the structure itself .You may use the same structure indicator if the existing FL doesnot affetcs your new naming convention.I dont think there is a need to have a new equipment category here. But again restructuring would mean the history will be there with Old equipments and FL.New history will get created as and when orders are created for these FL/Equipments.This would be confusing or not a better option in the long run if someone wants to see the history.

Hi,

A) Yes

B) Yes, you can create similar FL and Equipments. However you may not be able to use the same Key for the FL and Equipment number.
