system setup between SAP ERP ECC6 and 3rd party NON-SAP WMS

Dear all,

Our company has a scenario recently decided to utilize an external third-party warehouse management system (i.e. non-sap). This 3rd WMS is gonig to connect to our SAP ECC6 system .

I am wondering if anyone of you out there has an experience in this area of system setup? If so please share.

I have read the SAP help portal on Decentralize-Warehouse Management (i.e. http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/57/803c35975f0054e10000009b38f839/frameset.htm).

My question is:

- Do I just follow what the sap help portal said on the system setup and the communication between the SAP ERP and non-SAP WMS will be working?

- What kind of technical input (i.e. feedback) I need to enquire from this third party WMS ?

- The help-portal mention BAPI interface, may I know how to create these BAPI interface in the system?

- Any shared-knowlegde you can let me know, it will help.

Thanks guys

Karen

Hi Tomas,

Your feedback is indeed helpful. thanks

Anywhere, I stil have few questions, hopefully you can give me an insight.

I saw this PDF article called "Interface between the WMS & the external systems" in website (http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/80bead90-0201-0010-c092-be2fc5a6f590?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true) or you go to google and type in "Interface between the WMS & the external systems".

The question I want to ask you is on page 18 in which the article stated three options:

1 - Connection via the interface to the decentralized WMS (link to another article which consists of 40 somthing pages)

2 - Connection via lean WM

3 - Connection via component interfaces

I am wondering which one of the method should I use in my case (i.e. a SAP ERP MM/IM connect to a NON-SAP WMS suite)??By the way, this non-SAP WMS is not a webportal kinda of thing...it is a software in system.

Thanks again. Tom.

Karen

Hello, tempkaren88,

yes, I've one client for whom we did the interface to external WMS; long story short, the main message is "don't underestimate the testing phase, test every imaginable case".

As for you questions:

"Do I just follow what the sap help portal said on the system setup and the communication between the SAP ERP and non-SAP WMS will be working?" -- yes, trust the documentation, it is quite clear and complete; once the eWMS will be able to connect to defined RFC port, you can comunicate via idocs; however, this is only the technical part of the communication, it doesn't say that those two system will understand each other, i.e. it doesn't specify the logical mapping of messages, which leads us to your second question... also, you should set up some idoc reprocessing jobs (for idocs which could be processed immediately), idoc archiving jobs (to get rid of old idocs), and implementation of ALEAUD message, i.e confirmation of the idoc processing (so the eWMS system will know whether the SAP has been able to process the sent messages);

"What kind of technical input (i.e. feedback) I need to enquire from this third party WMS ?" -- you need to understand structure of their messages, define the mapping SAP/eWMS, and also define who is responsible for the mapping, i.e. what kind of middleware you will use... system integration analysis, as any other; or, maybe you are one lucky bastard and this eWMS already have some connector for SAP, so there will be no need for data mapping;

"The help-portal mention BAPI interface, may I know how to create these BAPI interface in the system?" -- no, they're already there, the system will just use this BAPIs for IDOC generation; just forget it, it will behave as any other idoc;

"Any shared-knowlegde you can let me know, it will help." -- basic message once again "don't underestimate the testing phase, test every imaginable case"; generally, it's very tempting to suppose that SAP will treat the confirmation idocs (delivery confirmation) in similar fashion as user input, i.e. with all consitency checks and so on; however, sometimes this is not the case; my personal impression is that SAP prepared those idocs mostly for integration with SAP eWMS, so it can trust the other side of communication, as it is once again SAP... ;conclusion: test everything, every possible case;

Good luck

PS: Sorry for my stupid habit of using semi-colons instead of full-stops.

PPS: Don't you even try to ask for some of our documentation everythign we have is in our native language, Czech, sorry

Hi Phera,

I am afraid the two hyperlink you sent to me has nothing to do with my question and my problem.

Let's me recap,

Currently our company is using ECC6 SAP MM, Inventory, and other module to perform our daily business transaction. However, recently we have procure a third party Warehouse Management System (i.e. which is non-SAP).

My question is what sort of checklist (i.e. step) we need to undergo and investigate and setup in both side of the system so that both system can update inventory and business transaction without error and problem.. please see my previous questions.

Thanks again.
