About transport system of XI

Former Member

Dear experts,

We have two clients configured for XI separately for DEV and PRD.We have no QAS in picture.

Now i get a requirement to change a mapping.I changed the mapping and activated the mapping.

Now time is to transport it to PRD.

How can i ensure that someone had not made a change to that particular mapping before in Development.

How can i ensure that before i started Development on this mapping we had identical versions in DEV and PRD.

I am worried to move this mappping further and this is my prime concern.

Regards,

Aditya Sharma

Hi ,

I have implemented File Transport in my PI system (All Environments). i transported objects from M system to Prod during Go-Live . later during support made modification in Dev and Transported objects directly from Dev .

didnt Face any version problem . Objects were modified with changes made in Dev and even deleting objects works .

we can check the Objects transported using "FindTransport" option available in Design and configuration.

Hi Aditya,

How can i ensure that before i started Development on this mapping we had identical versions in DEV and PRD

The good practice is to add description in the object which you change. You can maintain saying : "changes made as a part of bug fixing_transportID"

By following this practice it will be easier to identify the versions in PROD and in DEV.Comparing the History in Dev and PROD will help but if you follow a practice to transport completSWCV and CS then it will be easier to track.

How can i ensure that someone had not made a change to that particular mapping before in Development

check the history and see the user ID who last worked on that.Check all trasports doen for that particular objects in CTS+ tool if you have used the same.Match the version in PROD and DEV as mentioned earlier.

I am worried to move this mappping further and this is my prime concern.

Before you move please test the functionality in DEV properly, check the current version in PROD and test the same version in DEV to see if it gives same issues. Then move the correction version to Prod.

Shabarish,i checked and found that in PRD i get only one version which is of type 'Created' but in DEV there is quite a big history.

Secondly i modified that object just two days before, that date is not coming. However all dates at implementation time can be seen.

Does XI suppose to ask for request when i modified or it saves by default in local.

in Dev, goto the mapping, in the menu message mapping, open History and check the log.

Do the same in PRD.

This will give you an idea of who, what etc has changed and if the copies are in sync

My other question to all of you is that incase File system was been used to transfer, how versions will be maintained ?.

Hi Aditya,

File based transport is a simple export and import exercise. Its like once the import is done

to PROD it overwrites the old version available in PROD with the current version. So in case

of file transport there is no means of tracking the transports.

we need to be careful when using the file transports.

So it is always advised to use CTS+ as you can track/manage the transports as this activity is

very critical for the delivery.CTS + has a flow which needs the approval before the objects are

moved from one environment to the other ,so chances of getting the wrong version is less and

only authorized IDs can manage the transport system.

Two days back i made a change to mapping .Saved the mapping ,yet why version was not created in History.

I could not see the date of last change as mine.Though i made change.I am sure and i can see.Its persistent.

Activate the Mapping in order to reflect in the History ...

changes activated only be visible in History...

I got it maybe. When i click on properties of mapping object.I could see new version and change date.May be in history it comes only when i transport and that too by CMS or CTS+.

I have another worry.Ex in DEV i have mapping object X .In PRD same object has already been moved before, but not by CTS+

or CMS (i mean only file transport).

Now i try to use CMS or CTS+ today. Will transport management system not deny me saying that previous versions are not identical?(Looking for an expert opinion here).
