Developer access key

Hi there!

I understand that one needs to be registered as a developer in the system before changing/creating any object.

However, system prompted me for developer access key when I tried changing some custom program in SE38 and system allowed me to change SAP script form without prompting anything about developer access key.

Any information on why system never prompted for developer access key when changing SAP script form in SE71?

Hi ,

It is might be happening due to script is client dependant and programs are client independent.

Hi,

The system asks for developer access key only once in the same server.

Yes.. only once, till you provide one.

I'm still not registered as developer in the system but I can change the SAP script form.

You have a developer key which tells SAP who you are. Then, the FIRST change of an object in SAP namespace requires an access key. This is a DIFFERENT value...ask your Basis team for the access key for the object you're changing. If it's in the customer namespace, however, as your posting implies, you would not need an access key to change, but you would have to be registered in the system as a developer.

Hi Gaurav,

Did you have a system refresh or copy? because if you have any of these then also the system will ask you to enter the developer access key and this should be the same that you got when you developed something for the first time on your system.

Thanks,

Thanks for all the replies!

Still the question remain same..

Why system allows to change a custom SAP Script form to a user who is not registered as a developer in the system?

I think the developer access key is required, only for those objects, which use SE38 ABAP editor. You can create or change SAPSCRIPTS, SMARTFORMS, WORKFLOWS without developer access. I worked on both 4.6/ECC6 and have noticed the same.

I'm not sure of the reason for it and whether any settings can be done by BASIS to restrict this.
