Could someone explain, what is the use of classification functionality in qs41. Can we maintain various defect types with a realted class. Where do wee need to enter the values, if we assign a class to the code group. Will system ask for entry at time of defect recording.
Thanks

You can grouped different defect types by using Classification. You can assign class to any defect types (Code Groups) but it is mandatory that class types should be 007 only. You need not to enter Class type during defect recording.
Use :
You can find out any defect class or classes by using its nature i.e its charactristics value which will be maintained when you defined char. along with values for that class.
For Ex. There are different types of defect in a single type of product like Edge Defect , Body Defect , Frame Defect etc. Edge defect has characteristics of crack of length 1 mm length , Body Defect has crack of 1.5 mm & Frame has crack of 2 mm.
In this case we create a class for this defect in which we will maintain char as Crack . We will assign class with char crack to defect types Edge , Body & Frame which will nothing but a Code Group. Char Values for these code groups will be 1mm, 1.5 mm and 2 mm resp.
I think this will help you.

Can we maintain various defect types with a related class. Where do wee need to enter the values, if we assign a class to the code group
The concept of classification is only to categorize the code group with class type 007.A char has some value when attached to the class, does not get defaulted in the defects in QS41.
What i mean is it does not have significance while doing defect recording.DR will only shows those code & code gr which wee created in QS41.
