Existing fields in commuication structure but problem exists

Hi Gurus,

My problem is that i am already using a datasource, now for my new report I want some more fields in the data source which are present in the Communication Structure but not in Extract Structure, now if I I drag the fields then again I will require down time and all, is there any workaround possible.

Please help me out I am new to BI.

Hi,

If your datasource is already in production, and you want to data only from today onwards for enhanced fields, i.e. historical data is not required for enhanced fields..

1. Fix ECC down time for 20 to 30 munities

2. Keep all objects on Qty system in ECC and BW.

3. Run Delta laods in BW for 2 to 3 times.So with this step you can clear SMQ1 and RSA7. Check the entries in RSA7, if it is ZERO then it is fine.

4. Move DS from ECC Qty to ECC PROD .

5. Replicate in BW.

6. Move all BW objects from BW Qty to BW Prod.

7. Delete Init load in InfoPackage level (Not in ODS/Cube).

8. Load Init without DataTransfer.

9. Then Run Delta.

10.Next day on wards deltas will come as usual.

If you need Historical data also.

1. Delete data in Cube.

2. Fix Down Time and load Init then Delta.

Thanks All,

My doubt is resolved thanks for your reponses, but still I want to know something, suppose I have a standard cube which fullfills my requirements in which there is no staging area in between like ODS then why should I insert an ODS(as staging area) and change the standard flow instead of this what we can do is store the whole data till PSA means all the fields of communication structure are there in data source and mapping of the fields is done as required.

I want to discuss this please suggest your answers.

Hi Mayank,

If you have the fields in the comm structue also, without having mapping from source how the fields will get filled with data

As you said they are not present in the Extract structure try to enhance your data source with the required new fields and if required write coding in CMOD tcode in the corresponding exit and then replicate the Dats ource in to BI to get the new fields and maintain teh infosouce and comm structure with th new mappings for the added fields and then load the data to the respective target

If your source is Flat file then then add the new fields in the flat file, and follow same procedure as you did earlier

Actually you didn't get my problem, It is like I know fields are there in communication structure but the problem is that that data source is already in production environment and I don't want to do the set up table activity again and I know that set up table has to be filled again it's just that client will ask why you need to do set up table activity for the same data source then it will be difficult to convince them and the same problem I have faced earlier to, so it means that we should always drag all the fields of the communication strucuture to extract structure even if we do not require and do the transformation mappings as required because we never get to know when client will ask for the repoort which will require the new fields of communication strucutre.

Hi Mayank,

It would be best to get all the fields of the data source in the staging DSO and then take upwards from there, only those which you need.

This will also avoid filling set up table multiple times as there is no alternative way to avoid this.

Hi Mayank,

As said by Vikram, itz better to have a staging DSO, which contains all the fields of the Datasource and then having datamart scenario. But in your case, i dont think you have a staging DSO, so the only option left is to fill the setup table.
