Crystal Reports SP3 - Default printer no longer selected in printerlist

When you print a report, by using the print button in the crystalreportviewer in a windows application, the default printer is not the selected option anymore, as was the case with previous versions. For people with a number of printers to select from and who print a lot of reports on a daily basis, this is extremely annoying. Depending on how the print dialog is shown, this is an extra clicking around because of the new sp3. This service pack was amongst other reasons there to solve a problem with setting page margins, see , is this a new error that is being introduced?

Forgot to mention that it is Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 (from https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm ) that I am talking about /Uffe

Hi Uffe,

I just installed SP3 and confirmed it was the default in SP2 and then confirmed it's still the same in SP3. I don't see the same problem as you.

Need more info, what version of VS .NET are you using?

What is your default printer?

Do you have Dissociate.... check on in the report or setting it in code

Thank you

Hi Don,

Thanks for your reply.

We use Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Version 9.0.21022.8 RTM

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1.

The Dissociate... check is not selected in the report.

My printer is a is a Canon iR 5880C PCL6, which I dont think matters, since I did not save the report or make any changes to it between the time when it worked and now that it does not. The only difference is the SP3.

It seems that the selected printer at least on my machine always is the Microsoft XPS Document Writer, although I am not sure that is the case on all the users. This is not actually the last item in my printer list, I have 10 items in my printer list and there are three items after the XPS.

Grateful for any help at all to solve this, we have thousands of users....

Hi Uffe,

With that kind of user base I suggest you purchase a case and get this escalated to R&D directly. You'll have a good Business Case and if this is considered a bug then you can get a refund.

Thanks again
