Public holidays

Public holidays describe the statutory holidays for a particular country or region within a country. Public holidays may be defined as:

u2022 Fixed date

u2022 Fixed day of week from a specific date

u2022 Specific number of days before or after Easter (Sunday)

u2022 Easter Sunday

u2022 Moveable holiday (with individual specification of dates during each specified year).

For holidays with fixed date (such as Christmas) and moveable holidays it is possible to specify simple rules guaranteeing the holiday if it falls on certain days of the week (Thu, Fri, Sun, Sat/Sun). For instance, Christmas day public holiday may be moved to the next working day if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

Note: Unusual behaviour where two consecutive public holidays exist with a set sequence.

Where two (or more) public holidays fall with a set sequence, such as Christmas Day and Boxing Day in the UK, an unusual effect of holiday ordering change is noted where a guarantee rule is set and where the first holiday falls on a non-working day. This effect is noted in 2005 where Christmas Day falls on a Sunday. Christmas day and Boxing Day are guaranteed holidays and in the UK the rule used is to move the holidays to the next working day. Since Boxing Day is already on a working day the guarantee rule is not triggered, but the rule is triggered for Christmas Day. Since the following Monday is already a holiday, Christmas day holiday is moved to the Tuesday with the result that for year 2005, Boxing Day comes before Christmas Day in SAP.

In the case of the UK this is normally not a problem. Both days are usually marked as holiday class 1 u2013 day off and are usually subject to the same processing, however, should this occur where different processes are required, for example setting of work schedule variants or the determination of overtime, then this issue could present problems. This issue has existed in SAP for a long time and therefore it is considered of low importance, raised here for awareness only.

Holiday classes

In SAP standard the following definitions are used for public holiday classes:

Class meaning

blank Not a public holiday

1 ordinary public holiday

2 Half-day holiday, e.g. 24.12. (Christmas Eve)

3 to 9 customer specific public holiday classes

Holidays with no holiday class are not treated as non-working time within the work schedule but may be used for notational purposes, such as religious festivals of note that are not normally observed as general time off work.

Most holidays within Global View should be holiday class 1 as per SAP standard and represent a day of non-working time. In SAP standard holiday class 2 is specified for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

Holidays with class 2 represent days with a half day holiday. The holiday itself does not determine a half day holiday since it cannot take into account individual employee working times. Instead, the holiday class may be used to trigger a daily work schedule variant rule. The daily work schedule variant rule can then be used to specify a work pattern for the day with reduced hours.

Note: Beware of creating many holiday calendars for a country since work schedules are calendar specific. Holiday calendars therefore act as a multiplier for the number of schedules required.

Create and maintain the minimum set of calendars as part of template, taking general country and regional holidays into account.

For implementations, additional calendars may be created within the country ID to accommodate local variations between customer sites but also consider the use of day type rules and special days as an additional method available to store these variations.

Factory calendars

Follow the same naming convention as for holiday calendars when creating factory calendars. Create factory calendars as needed.

finally go to Tcode SCAL

and maintain the three nodes.

Public Holidays

Holiday Calendar

Factory Calendar.

Hi

On the basis of Your client requirement u can create the holidays list like fixed holidays(jan 1,Jan 26,May1,Aug 15,etc) as well as movable holidays(Pongal,Diwali,Vinayaka chavithi,Holi, etc).

In movable holidays it asks the range of years. for example pongal falled on 14 of 2007,15th of 2008,15 th of 2009 and 14th of 2010. the holiday is changes every year.that is the reason we can call as movable holidays.

So first u can create holidays list.

Transaction code SCAL in that you can select the radio button holidays list (new entries)

In that selection fields are (day,Month, Public holiday class, short holiday name & Long holiday name) then save.(Fixed holidays)

In that selection fields are Public holidays(range of intervals for years),Public holiday class, short holiday name & Long holiday name) (Floating or movable holidays).

Then select the Radio button of Holiday Calander

In that go to new entries mention that calender ID with 2 ch A/N, mention the text and finally assign the holidays list ur calender then save.

Hi,

Go to transaction SCAL.

1. Define public holidays

2. Create new public holiday calendar and assign public holidays to it.

Cheers!
