HANA as Application Development Platform

Hi All,

SAP HANA has been around for some time but still trying to understand the various HANA solutions and SAP roadmap.

• I understand that S/4 HANA is the next generation SAP ERP software on HANA database. It is essentially a packaged application like SAP ERP R/3. So in this SAP has done what it has been doing, i.e. developed a packed application which the customers can use after customization.

• There is another product which is just HANA or HANA Application Development platform. SAP has described HANA Application Development platform as below in the attached screen shot.
• It's basic objective it to allows customers to develop applications right from scratch like it can be done in the Microsoft .Net Development framework or JAVA development framework or the Android Framework etc. framework. Of course HANA application development is meant for serious and bigger business applications whereas .Net/JAVA/Android can be used for developing small applications.

• With HANA Application Development Platform is SAP trying to establish an business application development framework similar to the Microsoft .Net Framework or the JAVA Development Framework which will allow to build applications from scratch ?

• Along with packaged applications is SAP delving into the creation of application development framework in it's long term road map ?

• Are there any customers who have actually developed business applications right from scratch on HANA platform and using the same ?

• Currently there can be decision points like whether to use SAP ERP or Oracle ERP or Success factors or Ariba etc. On similar lines are there decision points like whether to develop applications on .Net platform or HANA platform ?
