Sales area is not defined for customers

Hi,

I have done all the defining and assignment of the enterprise structure. I have also set up the sales area. But when I try to create a customer is gives me the messaage " Sales area IN01 12 12 is not defined for customers". It suggests that the entries are missing from the TVTA table but then when I checked the table the S.Org, Dist. Chnl and Div are there. could some one suggest whats happening here?

Also I have seen suggestions of having common Distribution channels and Divisions. What If I dont want this? Is should ideally work without this being done also right?

Define the common distribution channels and common divisions

In the transaction code VOR1 and VOR2 you can assign this

Path: IMG->SALES & DISTRIBUTION->MASTER DATA---.DEFINE COMMON DISTRIBUTION CHANNESL and COMMON DIVISIONS

Please check these two settings

For this you need to understand the functionality of Common Distribution Channel & Common Division.

Common Distribution Channel and Common Divison are maintained so that if any master data like customer or material maintained with respect to one distribution channel can be used in other Distribution Channel. It prevents the multiplication of master records.

Eg: A customer is created for say sales area 1000/20/00 then the same customer can be used in sales area 1000/30/00. If we maintain 20 as common distribution channel. Hence no need for extending the customers.
