Hello,

Location-->

Location allows a plant to be classified according to spatial or situation criteria.

The following master data objects can be assigned to these locations:

Asset master records of Asset Management

pieces of equipment

functional locations

work centers

production resources/tools

Note

Locations are used for informative assignment only. You can only use locations to structure a matchcode or as parameter criteria in reporting.

You cannot derive any functionality from locations in terms of hierarchies, etc.

Plant Section-->

The plant section enables you to subdivide the maintenance plant from the point of view of production responsibility. The person responsible for the plant section is the contact for coordination between production and plant maintenance.

The plant section can be used for evaluation purposes.

Every piece of equipment and functional location can be assigned to a plant section.

Hope this help you.

Rakesh

Well there are several options that you could use for each of the 10 maintenance locations:

A Plant is an organizational unit for dividing an enterprise according to production, procurement, maintenance, and materials planning.

A place where materials are produced, or goods and services are provided.

So creating 10 plants for 10 locations would mean 10 places where materials are produced or goods and services are provided.

Locations can be used to subdivide plant according to space and local area. You can assign an address to a location. But it is not specific to Maintenance activities.

Plant Section further divides the Plant into production areas. Specific to Production activities

A functional location represents the place at which a maintenance task is performed. Specific for Maintenance activities.

You could use any of the above options mentioned according to your requirement.

We mapped a single Maintainence Plant and the locations you are talking about as different Plant Sections.

Everything is OK with this set-up.

The main advantage of any field such as Plant Section etc is for Querying.

Plant Section means exactly what Usman said in his reply.

"Plant Section further divides a plant into various production areas"

For example you have a Factory with several units such as Foundry, Light Fabrication, Heavy Fabrication, Heat treatment, Testing etc.

OR

in some other scenerio, Motors Shop, Generators Shop, Transformaers shop, Assembly shop

All these units can be mapped as Plant Sections

Your storage Locations is a different thing. you can have one to one with Plant Section if you want. OR you can map exactly as they exist presently.

Hi,

Plant Sections can be defined in IMG -> PM & CS -> Master Data in PM & CS -> Technical Objects -> General Data. In that path you can define plant sections.
