Download for Windows Netweaver ABAP Trial available? minisap #ABAP_Trial

I'm searching for a Windows ABAP Trial. I can't seem to find anything. We're testing our BC-XOM implementation and that requires that SAP be able to directly execute two of our programs, so Linux in a VM will not solve our Windows testing problem. Some years back, I installed SAP Netweaver ABAP Trial 7.02 SP11 Win 64 bit Version on my Win 7 workstation, but my "saved" download for that has become corrupted. Our Windows developer wants to setup a copy on one of his test boxes and we'd like to retire two ancient (decade+ old?) Windows server boxes, so we need an installer. It need not be latest and greatest or have any features beyond a basic system.

The minisap license renewal page has

( ) NSP - SAP NetWeaver 7.x (Windows / MaxDB)

SAP NetWeaver Sneak Preview ABAP Edition from SDN

but the link just goes to the generic Developer Trials & Downloads page with search setup. I can't seem seem to find a suitable version. Help appreciated.

Hi there

I think the problem is that the older versions won't run on Windows 10 so no longer available. I'm not sure why running in a VM would be a problem as the back end could still run services from windows (e.g ABAP PROXY etc etc). Might need a bit of work but I'm sure it's do-able. If your Windows is as old as W7 it's worth changing anyway as there are so many security holes these days plus Windows 7 is reaching End of Life. Sometimes in these situations rather than just pressing on with legacy stuff it's better just to bite the bullet and find a technical "get around"

Cheers

The need is to have a Windows test system which we can use to test the execution of our two Windows binaries which are the interface programs to our output management system. We aren't doing ABAP or other SAP development on SAP, just using SPAD and sp01 to push spool requests through our interface. Security and power isn't an issue - these are only used for testing in house. Somewhat older OS/SAP systems are OK. (Our ancient ones are Core2 Duo, 1GB RAM Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2 running the 7.01 ABAP Trial. Still usable, but really long in the tooth.) Were it not for the need to test our binaries under Windows SAP, Linux VMs would do fine. Perhaps cases such as ours are so niche that SAP will not worry about it.

Ah, just found a squirreled away copy of ABAP_Trial_7_02_SP11_Win_64_bit_Version_3_387_GB.rar , so the immediate itch is satisfied. Thanks for the warning about older versions and Win 10! We're going to give it a shot on a Windows Server 2012 machine. We'll see...

richard.gray I don't think an ABAP trial version can be used to test a software, as per license... okay I'm not a lawyer, I'm not sure 😉

Please see Sandra's comment below. I also suspect this would be a license violation. If you're testing an interface with SAP then either your company or your client should provision a test SAP environment under their license and provide you with a connection.

It may seem tempting and exhilarating to just bootstrap something on your own but be careful with this approach.

Hi Rich,

No, the latest AS ABAP dev edition is only available for Linux . I am also not a lawyer, so feel free to check the text of the license, but my (informal) understanding is that the dev edition is for trying out the language, not official tests.

Best wishes,

Julie Plummer.

Hello,

have you tried to log in as User SAP* and renew the License of your SAP Netweaver ABAP Trial 7.02 SP11 Win 64 bit Version installation? Important is that you use the SAP* User!
