Measuring Objectives using Initiatives

Former Member

Hello all ,

We are building a scorecard for a infrastructure company. The client wants to an initiative designed for each of his projects. The status of the projects ( both time delay and budget ) needs to be captured. The objective needs to be evaluated based on the performance of each of the prj ( initiative in this case).

Is it possible to measure the performance of an objective from initiatives ? Is there a way to extract the data captured by the initiatives and load the data into the PAS to create a KPI ? The user wants to see/evaluate the start date , actual start date , end date , actual end date , delay and budget status. How can we tackle this situation ?

Thanks

Vijay

Vijay,

Initiatives are actions, though not necessarily measures. You can link an Initiative to a single KPI and have the Status of the Initiative driven by the Status of the KPI. It is then that KPI that drives the Status of the Objectives. Although Start and End Dates in Initiatives will drive the Schedule status and Prioritization Matrix, these dates don't connect with other areas in SSM.

Out-of-the-box, Initiatives pull data, they don't push data. To add data like that to PAS, you'd probably be better creating a table and pulling in the data that way.

Although it does not affect the Status of an Objective, in the Scorecard Overview section the individual user has the ability to include Initiatives in their view, so they could see Initiatives listed with the Objectives they support.

Regards,

Bob
