Regarding Licenses For SAP 2007B

Former Member

Hi All,

We were on SAP 2005B and we have 50 user licenses. We have upgraded to SAP2007B which is on a different server (as suggested by the Channel Partner). Now, they are suggesting that the temporary licenses would be provided to us every 15 days.

Is it not possible to get permanent license as this would a long term exercise and the solution is not a permanent one. Has SAP done something to handle such an issue? What can we do to get permanent licenses?

Thanks,

Joseph

Hi

License will be generated according to the Hardware Key. If u changed the server then def. Hardware key would be changed and u wana to get the license for this, it is different from the old License . So u have to buy new only.

FIrst of all y did u moved to new server.

Hi Giri,

We moved to the new server because the channel partner told that upgrading to 2007B has lot many issues and also, we have over 40 databases. So they asked us to set up a new server on which we would install 2007PL and then put opening for all the databases.

Isn't there anyway to get the permanent licenses? Can we talk to our distributor directly to provide us the permanent licenses?

Thanks,

Joseph

Hi

U r Channel partner only. Even if u contact SAP Directly they will say to contact ur Channel Partner only.

But for sure i think u have to pay for license bcoz u have changed the Server.

Hi Joseph,

The license server for release 2005 can be shared for the release 2007 server as well.

This means that when you have serverA for 2005A (incl. license server) and you have serverB for 2007B, you can connect 2007B to the license server of 2005A.

After the migration has completed and you want to activate the license server on serverB, you need to request a new license key as the license file is bound to a specific server (throught the Hardware Key as mentioned earlier in the threat)

At this time, the license key can be requested through the channel partner portal or through the customer portal (S-User is required for both portals). You simply 'edit' the current system and change the HWKey to the new server and the new license key will be mailed to you.

Hope this helps.

Peter

Hi Peter,

So does this mean that with my S-user id, I can get permanent license for the system? Please let me know. In the mean time i would try your suggestion.

Thanks,

Joseph
