Kernel (disp+work) hangs

Hello,

I've been involved in a complete system restore (as a test), but when I try to do the simple check on the kernel, dispwork, I don't get a response. The dispwork command basically hangs at the command line. Other executables, such as R3trans, don't work either. But, commands like brtools work.

I've been checking what I can, but it's difficult when it won't even give me an error log. Could this be a library issue? I'm just trying to get a basic test for the kernel so I can start the system.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

what is your database and version?

Did you check the trans.log when you execute R3trans -d?

Is your kernel matched with the HW platform and its same as working systems in your landscape?

what happens when you start the system?

Probably logs can provide additional info in the work directory.

    Dear George,

Can you attach the output (if exists) of 'disp+work -V'?.

    Best regards,

    Rafael

Thanks for the quick reply. That's the problem, I don't even get anything from the "dispwork -V" output. It just hangs with no response when I enter "dispwork". I mean, the command prompt never even comes back. I don't know what to check when I can't even get a log file.

Check the env variables, also check the permission on the kernel directory...

What user are you logged with?

    Regards

    Juan

    • Hello George,

If we talk about Windows OS, perhaps this issue is either caused by a missing or out-of-date Microsoft runtime DLL for your Kernel.

If so, please check following Notes ?

      684106 - Microsoft runtime DLLs

1375494 - SAP system does not start after applying SAP kernel patch

      Best regards,

      Rafael.
