Are there any plans to port the IDM itself to non-windows platforms - and maybe also to SAPs own database MaxDB?
We neither want Windows nor any MSS-SQL or Oracle in our current landscape (Linux + MaxDB).

Hi
As I read in another post only short time before yours a port to e.g. MaxDB cannot be expected in the near future, because a lot of work/knowledge is done within StoredProcedures which are not easily ported or re-written for other databases. This sounds reasonable but - I must admit - like a pity
But IdM also runs on Oracle. Maybe you already have a SAP-system with oracle as underlying database?
IdM mainly uses Java-technology, so (as far as I know) you can also run it on Linux/Unix. You only need a Windows XP or above (maybe even a Win2k is sufficient, I never tried) for the configuration (to be more precise a Microsoft Management Console), and I suppose you have that somewhere in your landscape
Hope I could help - but wait for an official response.

Not only a pity but a no-go. I just checked the installation, there are quite a lot of scripts and looking into them it appears that it's not an easy rewrite indeed.

Nope, almost all our systems run on Linux and MaxDB, also our main ERP (2,8 TB), some run still on HP-UX and/or Solaris but no Windows nor Oracle around in the production SAP landscape.

...and I would prefer to not have to deal with neither Win nor Ora for the server.
Thank you for the information neverless!

Hi Christian,

> If your DB doesn't grow too big, they should do just fine.
Thank you for the suggestions.
It's not only about licenses - it's about having a second platform/database which need to be supported in sense of database and security patching, maintenance and backup/restore and if IdM should become productive then even as HA in a cluster. Our landscape is already big and complex enough with what we have
It's also not about not being able to doubleclick icons in a certain sequence to install the thing and get it running, it's about a strategical and medium/long term view of being able to support multiple platforms and databases, especially, if it's about to become such a central point in the landscape.

Hi,
It's very disappointing and at the same time very strange that such a strategic product supports very limited DB vendors!
In fact, we were strongly considering IdM as a central authoritative product for identities in our company. However, it's "NO-GO" due to its limited support for DB vendor !
Rgds,
Sheikh
