Posting Period - 2007B vs 2005B

Dear All,

In SAP Business One 2007B there is a change in Posting period module as compared to previous version of Business One 2005B. The problem which is been faced in 2007B is that if the period is set to Locked then no changes can be done in transaction documents like Sales Order etc even the udf fields whichw as possible in 2005B.

Now if I keep the period as Unlocked Except Sales then also the problem is not resolved because we have a monthly closing and we need to close the period every month.

Also we need to still update some udf's in Sales Order by some selected users who have the autorization for Sales Order but if the period is locked then the user is not able to update anything. And its also not possible and safe to open the period each and everytime whenever an update of Sales order is required.

Please advise what can be a best solution for such scenerio.
