allocation structure vs pa transfer structure

hi consultant,

i need to seek advice. if my understanding not right please correct me.

i take internal order for example.

1 allocation structure (oko6) is to define the cost element used between sender and receiver cost object. sender here is internal order where as receiver can be cost center but NOT copa. correct?

2 pa transfer structure (kei2) meaning from internal order directly post to copa value field without go through another cost object. correct?

3 if have both allocation structure and pa transfer structure maintained in IO, then how to know which is going to copa as in oko6, the receiver category in settement cost element for the allocation structure code A2, is PSG.

I think your understanding is pretty close, but not quite complete. An allocation structure can be used to settle costs to different type of receivers. Which receiver is settled to is based on the settlement rule in the sender object. In your example, the internal order should have a settlement rule assigned to it that says it should be settled to a profitability segment (PSG). You can check the settlement rule by clicking on the settlement rule button for the object in t-code KO02. The valid settlement categories for the order are controlled by the settlement profile which is assigned to the order type.

So once the settlement rule in the order is maintained, the sytem will then use the allocation structure to assign the settlement cost element. You can have different settlement cost elements for each combination of source cost elements and settlement object category. In your case, you are settling to a profitability segment so you still need to maitain a record in the allocation structure that assigns the source cost elements from the internal order to a settlement cost element for the PSG category.

Since you are settling to COPA you must also tell the system which value field the costs should be assigned to during settlement. You do this with the PA transfer stucture that was assigned to the settlement profile for the order type. In the PA transfer structure you specify which source cost elements in the order should settle to which value fields in COPA.
