Install of ERP, ECC, SD? totally lost

I'm a total beginner with SAP and so am feeling pretty lost. I have some media, but am unsure if it's suitable for my environment (environment is Windows, SQL). I'm unsure if I have the correct media (maybe it's for linux?) and am wondering even where to begin. I do not yet have access to the SAP marketplace to view the install guide and am wondering the very very very basics, i.e. what do all these DVDs mean? Which one do I start with? What do I install where? Do I have to export/dump these dvds b/c there is no simple looking setup file on anything. B/c I don't have access to the sap portal yet, I can't read the install guide.

Can someone help?

Turns out I was missing some media. Finally found the installation manager and that got me going.

I don't wanna discourage you but setting up/installing a SAP system is not starting setup.exe

Without an installation guide you'd be pretty lost. If it's an ERP 6.0 system (ECC 6.0) you will first need an installation of a Solution Manager system to generate an installation key for your environment.

You'll also need access to SMP to get the latest installation notes mentioned in the installation guide, you'll also need the guide to configure your operating system properly (disks, swap, domain etc.).

So before you don't have access to SMP you can't start.

Why not downloading a Netweaver installation here for free on the SDN, install it and check it out?

Do not feel bad, its is always the first one that is though and you will remember. If you have the DVD's it will tell you on the DVD which OS and Databases are being used for. But your first step should be getting to service market place. Under the download folder you will find a folder for installation guids. Always measure 3 times and cut once. Make sure you go trough installation guide and related guides. Once you undrestand the guide and have the right DVD's, Installation will be a breez.\

Just few recommendation:

Always use the latest Installation files.

After you extract your software, make sure your TP, R3trans , SAPM/SAINT softwares are the latest.

Make sure you have enough memory and disk space.

Document your steps.

What database and OS are you going to install on?
