WDV key

Gurus,

My requirement is for a simple WDV key that depreciates at say 10% every year. Only the acquisition cost is provided stating the depreciation is 10%. How do I configure a wdv key for 10%. What other details may be requried, if any.

Thanks

Alen

Hi Alen,

I don't think there is a standard key whick can do it, but there some similar keys that you can copy and change to get your requirements. The percentage rate is controlled by the multi level method assigned to the key. For example in my SAP system there is a standard SAP key GD10. The description says Buildings decl.bal.10.0/ 5.0 / 2.5 %. Means it calculate 10% initially, then change to 5 % then change to 2.5%. Check the multilevel method assigned to this key (in my case it is 047). You can see the configuration for it. I can delete the settings for the 5% and 2.5% and change the year in the the 10% to 999. This will make the key to calculate 10% depreciation until the asset is fully depreciated.

Check in your system if you have the same key(depending on the SAP versions standrad SAP keys may also change). Other wise check for a key with % depreciation, if there is no 10% depreciation, go to multilevel assigned to the key and change the depreciation %.

Hope this helps, revert back if you run into any issues

Paul,

Your answer almost got me to the solution but I am still left with a small problem. I have useful life set as optional in the screen layout. Inspite of this, the key GD10 is forcing me to enter a useful life. Ofcourse, in the calcualtions, I see the useful life is not considered and wdv is calculated correctly. How do I adjust the key so that I dont enter the useful life but get the desired wdv.

Your reply will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Alen,

I am not sure why is that happening. May be some settings in the GD20 key triggering that, because I know some other depreciation keys does not require it. Compare the GD20 key with another key key that does not require it and see if you can remove that setting without affecting the calculation. Or you can put a default useful life for all of those assets as the life really does not really have any effects on depreciation.

I will revert back if i find something.
