Supercessions in SAP B1

Anyone know of a good way to do record supercessions in SAP B1?

I work in Automotive and the manufacturer is constantly renaming the part without changing it. This leads to customers buying under a dozen different numbers - all of which should be superceeded by the latest released number.

Ideally, I want to migrate sales history as well as part history from the OITM for whatever part is superceeded.

Thoughts?

You may use batch function to reduce the numbers of items. If the part is no change, you could maintain the same item code. Just change the description. If something else need to be identified, batch could be related to part of the items subject to a specific date range.
