Validations for the ztable field which having an check table

Hi All,

I have created a zmaintenance view with a field(shipping type) that has check table(T173) assigned. but for that particular field i want to be able to give a dummy value like *(shift 8) .

our business dont want to create the record * in the check table.

I tried with the event number 01(before saving the data in the data base). i have written the following code in this event

IF ZTABLENAME-FEILDNAME NE '*'.

SELECT SINGLE SHIPPING TYPE FROM T173 INTO L_VARiable WHERE SHIPPING TYPE = Ztable-zfield.

IF SY-SUBRC NE 0.

MESSAGE E001 WITH 'INVALID ENTRY'.

ENDIF.

But the above code is not getting trigrred when iam creating a record and saving.

I came to know we can write this logic in PAI of that screen number.. where exactly in PAI i can start coding? and please check the code is correct or not?

Can any body please suggest which is the best method for my requirement whether to write in events or PAI of the screen number..

Thanks & Regards,

Nagendra
