BO Designer

We have BO Designer installed on a server centrally, initially on person used the app and so logged into the server and used the app direct from the server.

We now need access for multiple users but do not want them all accessing the server app we would rather install Designer locally on their own PC's

How do we do this ? can anyone advise

Xi 3.0 SP2

Hi

there is a BO XI 3.1 client installation package that contains the Designer. You just have to install this on the workstations of your users. Keep in mind that you have to install SP2 on top of that.

I would recommend to download the BO XI 3.1 client installation package. You can find this here: http://service.sap.com/installations.

Just navigate to Entry by Application Group-> SAP BusinessObjects portfolio->SBOP ENTERPRISE" BOBJ ENTERPRISE XI 3.1->Installation->Windows and select to download BOE XI 3.1 (CLIENT TOOLS) WIN INTL

As I said do not forget to download and install SP2 (for BO XI 3.1 Client) afterwards.

There is always more than one way to skin a cat. But in my humble opinion, it is easier to just download the Server+Client install package, then select Client during the installation. In that way, you only have to maintain one install program instead of multiple install programs as you can easily lose track of which one is which over time.

If you are installing Designer on the desktops or laptops, make sure the computers have the correct database driver and the database connectivity setup. For example, you will need to set up the tnsnames.ora definition for Oracle database access.

Since you intend to install the client tools on several workstations I will stick to the recommendation to download the client-only package. It is smaller and therefore easier to handle over software distiribution mechanisms like SMS etc.
