Crystal Reports 2008 and Connecting to Salesforce.com -- Troubleshooting the most common issues

(Note: see following posts in this thread as this was split in to multiple posts).

Connecting to your Salesforce.com sandbox instance

Symptom:

You cannot figure out how to connect to your sandbox Salesforce.com instance.

Resolution:

Use test.salesforce.com in the Server text box when connecting to Salesforce.com.

Trusted IP Address issue

Symptom:

When I try to connect to my salesforce.com data source in Crystal Reports 2008, the login fails with only the message "login Failed". I can log into my Salesforce.com account successfuly using the same credentials with Internet Explorer.

Resolution:

This issue is caused when the IP address of your computer has not been made "trusted" by your SFDC Administrator.

There are 2 possible resolutions:

1. Simply append your Salesforce.com security token to your Salesforce.com password. See Salesforce.com Help documentation to learn how to access your Salesforce.com security token.

2. Or a Salesforce.com Administrator can make your IP address "trusted" by Salesforce.com. Click Setup in SFDC, and navigate to Security Controls | Network Access (under the 'Administration Setup' heading).

If your IP address is not listed, you can add it using the 'New' button. If you don't know what your IP address on the Internet is, you can find it by going to http://whatismyip.com
