Portal Transport - Folder Overwriting

Former Member

Hi

I have initially transported a folder from DEV to Q system. After that I have deleted and added some iviews in DEV. Again I have transported the entire Folder to Q.

Now the problem:

In Portal Content in Q I can still see the deleted iviews still appearing. So I need a COMPLETE folder overwrite from root of the transported folder from DEV to Q system

Please suggest

Thanks in Advance

ASR

Hi Ananda,

This is not possible. It has to be manually deleted in the QA System or the target system.

I can only think of taking back up of the target system before any imports are done to it. May be we have to make a suggestion to SAP for PCD versioning.

Hi ,

This is not possible to delete the objects through transport.

while transporting we are handling only the objects that are added to package , so you have to delete them manually.

We had the same issue and investigated a lot on this , but no positive result.

I got one post like first have to add the object which one need to delete from Q system into package in dev.

Then delete that object from package so it will have a broken link and then transport to Q system.

But this was also not worked.

Hi All

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. We are using CTS+ for transport.

Seems that it's a limitation from SAP end. We have raised a SAP message for the same.

Will update as soon solution is available.

Thanks

Did you get a reply from SAP on overwriiting content not required through transports?

Hello ASR,

You can use XML transport for your case as it will overwrite the entire folder.

System Admin-> Transport -> XML -> Export and give the folder here in the Dev System.

System Admin-> Transport -> XML -> Import and give the generated XML file in the QA system.

Hi,

You have to delete the iviews individually directly from QA system. Objects that you want to delete can not be done via portal transport system unlike in R/3 where in objects that you have deleted will be reflected in the transport. When you transport objects in portal, the system is only touching the objects that is included in the transport (in your case the whole folder). Any objects that you have deleted or changed in DEV (even if you are transporting the same folder), will not be touched in QA therefore, will not be deleted.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

But this does not really solve the problem. Consider the case that this transport will go to Preprod where we do not have permission to alter portal content.

Is there is any other work around for this ?

Thanks
