EP upgrade

Hi,

Currently we have our EP 7.00 SP 14 running with Oracle database 10.2 on a windows OS.

EP is integrated with different SAP systems like BW (BI 7.00) and R/3 etc.,

Currently the BI team is upgrading their respective BI system from BI 7.00 to BI 7.01 (BI EHP1) and wants EP to be in sync with the upgrade to leave behind any issues which may come up and to utilize the enhancements upgraded fully via portal.

Since i am very new to all this up gradation, can anyone let me know on what upgradation has to take place at EP level to match the BI 7.01 upgradation.

Any helpful pointers on this will be highly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance,

Vipin.

Hi Vipin,

If you want to keep in sync with the BI stack, you only have to upgrade your portal to EHP1.

So your portal is currently running on NW7.00 SP14 and will be upgraded to NW7.01 (SP same as BI system).

Is your portal running in a standalone scenario, or is it an additional usage type in another java stack?

Furthermore, if you are using an NWDI (NetWeaver Development Infrastructure), you should take into account that this one should be upgraded as well. (if you are making developments for BI java or portal).

Hope this helps a bit..

Kind regards,

Mark

Hi,

Additionally what suggested above: make sure that while you upgrade you should take equivalence level in consideration.

For more information, you can check SAP Note 1248905 - SP Equivalence for update or upgrade to EHP 1 for SAP NW 7.0

Thanks

Hi,

With the replies i received from Mark and Sunny i am pretty much clear that i need to apply EPH1 to NW 7.0 to make it in sync with BI 7.01, however i am left with few queries like.

a) Based on the SAP note 1248905, since my current NW is at lower than SPS16 i.e., SPS14 i need to apply EHP1 SPS0 right?

b) BI once they apply EHP1 the target version will be BI 7.01 SPS5 and NW will be at NW 7.01 SPS0 will it be in sync even then ?

c) ECC / R3 is also integrated with EP and after the upgrade of EP with EHP1 will it creaet any compatability issues with ECC / R3 ?

Any helpful pointers will be highly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance,

Hi Vipin,

a) Based on the SAP note 1248905, since my current NW is at lower than SPS16 i.e., SPS14 i need to apply EHP1 SPS0 right?

No, SPS0 is the minimum required SP level. I would go for SPS5, the same as your BI instance.

b) BI once they apply EHP1 the target version will be BI 7.01 SPS5 and NW will be at NW 7.01 SPS0 will it be in sync even then ?

Just go for the SPS5 as mentioned above.

c) ECC / R3 is also integrated with EP and after the upgrade of EP with EHP1 will it creaet any compatability issues with ECC / R3 ?

Only if you want to use EHP functionality in ECC, you should upgrade your ECC system to an enhancement pack as well. For the compatibility between an Portal on EHP1 and an ECC 7.00 system, there is no issue.

Kind regards,

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your quick response once again!

I am little unclear with minimum SPS level of the target release statement.

If i need to get NW 7.01 SPS5 then can i directly apply EHP1 to my current NW version NW 7.0 SPS14 to get NW 7.01 SPS5 (or) should i first get it from NW7.0 SPS14 to NW 7.0 SPS20 and later apply EHP1 to get NW 7.01 SPS5.

Thanks & Regards,

Vipin.

Hi Vipin,

If you are running SPS16 or lower, you have to go to at least SPS0. So you can go directly to SPS5 without any problem.

Example:

In NW7.00 SPS20 are object of a higher version than in NW7.01 SPS3. So in case you where running on SPS20 and would upgrade to NW7.01 SPS3, you could loose data. Since you are running on SPS14 there is no need to take this into account..

Hope this clarifies it a bit..

Kind regards,

Mark
