Alternate boms

Hi, Pls advise how to use alternate boms. in my case our boms will always change when we receive the new order from the customer (slight variation). so accordingly we are making n no of alternate boms. then how to configure the system to pick the required alternate bom while creating the production orders. pls advise.

Hi,

First of all tell me why don't you amend the existing BOM?

If you amend it then it will be only one.

Even if you require to have the old BOMs also then there are several ways to selct the required BOM.

The easiest one is production version.

Maintain the PVs & in order type dependent parameters make setting for PV as 1 i.e. manual selection of PV so that at the time order creation system will ask you to pick up the required PV.

Other things are, you can restrict the unwanted BOMs by making the status as inactive in BOM header.

Also the validity period can be used to pick the required BOM.

From the want you have asked for, let me pose you a suggestion and am sure that this will serve to resolve your problem..

As per the various requirements, you create alternate BOMS and you can also create alternate routings if you have got different manufacturing process.

step 2: you define in the material master of the finished product, the all possible production versions, combination of BOM and Routing ... you can have any number of combinations depending on the client's choice of manufacturing.

step3: when executing the MRP run, you can keep the production version , that is to be used in unlocked status and lock the remaining prodn versions..

Dear ,

There are two way you can pick the altermative BOM if you maintain the same due to varion in customer requirement :

1.Goto-CS02 with Alternative BOM which you do not want the syetm to pick -Header Cap-Quantity Long Text -BOM Status -Keep Indicator-2 -In active status .

2.You can maintain Production Version in MRP4 view in MM02 of the FG .Here You can select Both Aleternative BOM and Routing witrh proper Valid from and To date .Keep BOM Explosion-Selection Method Indicator should be 3-Selection by Production version -Now while running MRP -Planned or der will created and this can be converted to Production order which will select the PV based on the Order Type Depenedet Parameters (OPL8)

In Order Type dependenet parameters -OPL8-Select the Order Type -Goto-Planning Tab -Production Oversion -Keep 0 indicartor- Automatically Selection of Production Version while creation of Production Order .

Hi ,

If you are using several Objects (Result of this is different finished products ) BOM with High proportion of identical products you can use " Variant BOM "

If you are using several BOMs for One object (One finished product) with different components & different processing methods you can use " Multiple BOM" .

For Production orders you can define for Alternative determination for Multiple BOMs in IMG

Spro / Production/ shopfloor control /Operations /Bill of material selection /Define alternative determination of multiple BOM.
