SAP GUI in Server to install BI Connector

Hi Gurus,

Is really necessary the SAP GUI installation on server to use the BICA ( BI Conector ) with SAP BW ? Should The LinkID configuration of SAP Connection and the creation of the Model BICDEFAULT be enough ?

Hi,

If you are setting up the LinkID connection to BW, you should connect through BAPI. You can do this by choosing one of the options for "SAP NW BI RFC".

This way you don't have to install the SAP GUI in the Strategy Management server.

If you are running a Strategy Management 7.0 SP5 or lower, these "SAP NW BI RFC" options will not be visible. Although there is a way to enable them in 7.0 SP5, in the case you are running such version you should make sure to upgrade to the most recent one(7.5 SP5 or SP6) which contains the latest improvements for this connection and enables a better usage of the BICA.
