Process Control Indicator on Shipment

I would like to know the impact of the ProcessControl Indicator when creating a new shipment type.

I have read the differences betwen Individual and Collective but would like to know what exactly it controls and how.

What impact does it have on subsequent processing especially attaching deliveries and shipment costing?
