Homogeneous or Heterogeneous System Copy

Hi Everyone,

Our Client has ECC 6.0 SPS 15 with enviornment (DEV/QAS/PRD)

u2022 SAP Release and Basis Release ECC 6.0, Kernel 7.0, Sup. Package level 15.

u2022 Microsoft SQL Enterprise Server (2005) SP2/MS ClusterRelease 9.00.3042

u2022 Operating System : Windows (2003) NT 5.2 Build 3790 SP2

u2022 Hardware Model and Vendor : HP Itanium IA64.

They want to move to hardware HP Xeon x64 as well upgarde the DB & OS version to SQL Server 2008 /Windows 2008

Whether it will be OS?DB Migration or Homogeneous SYstem copy???

2nd: CLient want to do Unicode conversion also , can it be done with Homogeneous System copy.

Client is also expecting us plan a DR stragtegy & design utilizating the Latest Virtualization Techonology

in order to reduce down the Total cost of ownership

Please share if anybody has any document on to it& suggestions.

Whether it will be OS?DB Migration or Homogeneous SYstem copy???

==> In this case since you are neither changing OS or DB in your landscape you are only migrating it from one system to another.

So this is just a homogeneous system copy. Since here you are upgrading your DB and OS both. Make sure you completely follow the respective OS and DB upgrade guide available. ECC 6.0 is compatible with combination of the target version of OS and DB you want to go.

2nd: CLient want to do Unicode conversion also , can it be done with Homogeneous System copy.

==> Unicode conversion will be carried seperately.
