Difference of entry date and posting date in a material document

Hello experts, I would like to know the difference between the entry date and posting date values in a material document.

For example, the posting date in a goods issue transaction is April 12, 2010 and the entry date is April 13, 2010 and the time is 00:54:53. What is being picked up in MB51 is the posting date, which is April 12, 2010 and the time of the entry date which is 00:54:53. These values produces confusion in interpreting the data shown in MB51.

Your responses will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Posting Date : The date of posting the values to the SAP system.

Entry Date : The Date on which you are doing the transaction / data entry.

For example, if you are doing a transaction today (30th Apr 2010) and posting a GR for a previous date, say 25 Apr 2010. Then the Posting Date : 25 Apr 2010 and Entry date : 30 Apr 2010.

    Hope it is clear.

    Hi John,

    As prer the F1 Help:

Document Date in Document - GOHEAD-BLDAT

The document date is the date on which the original document was issued.

Posting Date in the Document - GOHEAD-BUDAT

Date which is used when entering the document in Financial Accounting or Controlling.

The fiscal year and the period for which an update of the accounts specified in the document or cost elements is made, are derived from the posting date.

When entering documents, the system checks whether the posting date entered is allowed by means of the posting period permitted.

The posting date can differ from both the entry date (day of entry into the system) and the document date (day of creation of the original document).

    Best regards,
