Hello,

I am trying to find the best always/occasionally connected devices for NW Mobile 7.1 to use for barcode scanning. Is there a list of the recommended SAP devices? I have searched and haven't found anything.

I don't know about a recommended list by SAP for devices, but it depends on what type of environment you will be using the barcode scanner.

Retail \ Warehouse?

Rough \ industrial environment - ie Oil & Gas or Chemical Manufacturing?

Often in presentations, you will see Motorola devices (Symbol).

For chemical manufacturing, there is sometimes a need for Class I Div II configuration, so the MC9090 is a good choice, it includes a 1D \ 2D scanner.

Thanks for the reply. We'll primarily be using the device for barcode reading for inventory purposes in a workplace and warehouse environment.

We are using Motorola devices, it's a pretty big\reliable company.

They have various devices that could fit Retail\Warehouse, like gun format, wearable, vehicle mounted devices.

I think what you need to watch out for is what OS is on the device and that it is supported by SAP Netweaver Mobile, I have only seen SAP documents stating WM5 support for NWM 7.1 OCA client.

I have tested on WM6.1 with MS emulator and MC95 and it works, but probably not "supported" by SAP, as far as i know, maybe product matrix has been updated recently...

You'll probably need to figure out the Motorola distribution channels or "partner" in your region/area.

Another vendor would be intermec

Thanks. Have you used any Always connected Web Dynpro online application? Specifically, to have a barcode reader online?

This Windows Mobile 5 is a real limitation. You are pretty limited in the models you can pick with that restriction.

No, I only have experiencing using the Occasionally Connected Application (OCA) client.

Yeah, I have tested the OCA client on WM6, it works, it is not supported by SAP as far as I know.
