Any BAPI to auto assign phone number to selected contact in CTI environment

CRM 7.0, to many times in watching the agents receive a call from our customers if the phone number is not recognized they quickly put in the customer number and select the contact without ever updating the account or the contact with ths phone number coming in.

Looking to see if a BAPI exist where we could grab the phone number and either update the confirmed account or selected contact with that number. Maybe get sexy with pop up of asking the agent "should phone 555 555 55555 be added to account - contact - neither"

I do not think they see the productivity by maintaining the data.
