Select Master Inspection Characteristics based on material configuration.

I have set up configurable materials to be inspected using Inspection Type 03 (In-process insp. for production order). For each material I have assigned many master inspection characteristics in the task list. The inspection characteristics that I need to record results against are dependent on the configuration of the material in a specific order. What do I need to set up in order to select specific master inspection characteristic according to the configuration of the production order.( Example- I only want to record a value for "voltage" if the class characteristic GL_MOTOR_OPTION = 'Y' in the order).

Is this possible, or how should I be approaching this ?

Is this link done in a specific transaction or in the class ?

It is done in QS21 or QS22/23.

I recommend you use QS21. To use QS22 or 23 to link them requires you to manually make sure the control indicators, UOM, characters, num of decimals, etc.. all match up exactly right to the general characteristic. That can be a challenge for some.

If you create the MIC new in QS21 with a reference to the general characteristic, then all the important stuff is copied from the general characteristic and the creation is easy.

Thanks for info.

Do I need to tie the MIC to a Class ?

If so,is there any configuration settings needed to allow this ?

Mic needs to be linked to the general characteristic. General characteristic is in the class.

You will want to set the indicator "insp. by configuratn" in the inspection type. You need the mics in the receipe or routing.

MICS will not be removed from the inspection lot but will be set as not required or optional if they are not required according to the variant config.
