How can I uninstall CrystalReports 2016 yet leave the runtime in place?

My application installs the CrystalReportsForVisualStudio runtime (SP19) using the .msi installer on customer machines which use a program we provide to generate reports on the fly.

Some customers want to create their own report definitions and so we sell them the CrystalReports 2016 designer which is also installed on the customer machine.

If the customer uninstalls the CrystalReports2016 designer, it appears to remove all files under C:\Program files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\... which is where the CrForVisualStudio files live, thus the 'on the fly' report generation fails.

Why does it do that and how can I prevent it?

Actually CR for VS goes in here:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0

If you uninstall one you then need to do a repair install of the other.

Why are you uninstalling one of them?

What I meant about the location for CrforVs is that the uninstall of CrystalReports deletes the entire directory tree rooted at SAP BusinessObjects including that folder.

This scenario is unfolding on our customer's systems. Customers are often like cats: they do what they want.

Nonetheless, it seems a 'repair' on the CrForVs package does indeed fix this. Thank you.
