SAP Edge services without IoT Cockpit (IoT 4.0 - cloud)

Hi,

I have a requirement where the client says that they do not want IoT Cockpit piece but they want the data from Sensor / Devices into SAP Edge services primarily for storage where this data will be polled from an external service and the information will be stored in a SAP Hana db using an XSJS service.

Although the architecture seems pretty unusual the client (SAP internal) says this will cut down the cost for small / medium customers.

The issue I am facing to implement this solution is that there is absolutely no literature which bypasses the IoT Cockpit piece. IoT Cockpit is needed for device and sensors onboarding, authentication and the Edge system management. The client is insisting on bypassing the onboarding flow and using basic authentication for the MQTT requests to Edge on premise system. One of the prerequisites for triggering a publish message from a device to SAP Edge services is generation of certificate in the IoT Cockpit.

It would be great to hear from experts on how to achieve this.

Thanks,

Hello @Raj Pawan Gumdal,

It sounds like you want an on-premise solution. I am not sure if you are aware that we also have SAP Edge Service On-Premise (https://help.sap.com/viewer/product/SAP_EDGE_SERVICES_OP/3.0.2/en-US).

This was know at one point as Dynamic Edge Processing. It does not rely upon SAP IoT Service and can be deployed on its own without having to provision cloud components.

If you still have any other questions, I encourage you to reach out to the SAP Edge Services Product Ownership team. You can also reach me on my internal SAP email address.

Thanks,

w.

Dear wayne.pau,

Thank you so much for the answer. Unfortunately, I am out of the project now. However, I am interested to understand the roadmap of SAP Edge Services. From what I understand, SAP is not developing & supporting the Edge services anymore. Can you throw some light on the same?

Thanks,

Hi ,

This is very good requirement actually .

Did you try AWS IoT service ?? It provides alot of things pre-configured ( like serve, rest service,Oauth etc. )

Not sure how to by pass the IoT Cockpit, but one way is to use WebID service .

You create the same DB, structure and use SAP Web IDE service

Thanks and Regards
