Standard Purchase Requisition Flexible Workflow in Error - cx_sy_ref_is_initial

Hello Workflow Experts,

I have activated an standard flexible workflow for purchase requisition (PR). Once I create PR, it triggers the flexible workflow but unfortunately workflow goes to error. Sounds it is not able to find the action to perform.

There are 2 workflow template (WS00800157, WS00800173) for PR header and item level respectively. Both workflows show me same error in workflow log, which is;

NO Action - CX_SY_NO_HANDLER

An exception with the type CX_SY_REF_IS_INITIAL was raised, but was not handled locally or de

DE referencing of the NULL reference.

Please check the snapshots attached as well.

Can anyone tell me what is the reason of such an exception. Standard PR workflow should work out of the box or is there anything I am missing?

We are using S4HANA On PREM 1809.

Hello Naeem Khan,

I was facing the same error today.

In case it is still relevant for you (or anybody else): I was able to track down the error to an authorization issue for the workflow user SAP_WFRT.
So please run an authorization trace for this user and have a look for any failed checks.

Indeed. It was an authorization issue. I have solved it by assigning missing authorization to SAP_WFRT user.
