Hi Gurus,

In the SPC criterion, what is the difference between task list characteristic and master inspection characteristic?

Hi MAX,

If you assign master inspection characteristics at SPC criterion then system generates continuous control chart, means it is characteristics dependent system will show control chart even if the inspection lot is closed.

For 'task list characteristic' there are two options material and inspection lot, here if you apply 'task list characteristic/insp lot' then system generates the control chart for specific Inspection lot / material for that characteristics, once you close the lot then for next lot fresh control chart (separate Cp & Cpk) is maintained.

Hi Shekhar,

So what will be the difference between:

Task list characteristic/material and Master insp. char./material

Task list characteristic and Master inspection characteristic

Task list characteristic/material and Master insp. char./material

Task list characteristic and Master inspection characteristic

Belive me there is no such difference.only difference is of origin. That means whether SPC is originated from MIC or task list char. for "Material" you can say for a specific material & char (or MIC) combination SPC will be shown.

There are definite differences here.

Task list characteristic/material and Master insp. char./material

In a plan you don't necessarily have to have a MIC number. In addition, you can use the same MIC more than once in a plan. The task list characteristic is racked by the number in the plan, i.e. 0010, or 0020. Not the MIC number.

If I use the MIC/material combination, I could for instance use the same MIC in multiple operations in the plan. If I use the MIC number 4 times, in 4 different operations, then all four values will be used in my SPC chart. If Iused the task list characteristic/material combination instead I would have 4 different SPC charts.

Task list characteristic and Master inspection characteristic.

These options are basically the same as above except that you've dropped the material. For an MIC I would have one chart for the MIC regardless of how many plans it exists in. I.e every place it is used. At the task list characteristic it would be tracked by the task list characteristic number, (0010, 0020, etc.). But in this case, you'd have all the values across all materials in the same SPC chart.

I hope that helps.

Well Fire what you are saying is great, but I have one more query, how can I prepare the plan with task list characteristic and MIC, but I didn't face this issue before, what I do is that in the plan I assign the MIC and it takes the number 0010 and so on.

Ok.. I guess I'm not understanding this last question?

Yes... if you assign a MIC in the plan it also gets a task list characteristic number assigned. What's the issue?

If you pick the criterion of task lisk characteristic then the SPC chart will only contain values from an inspection against this specific task list characteristic, i.e. 0010.

If you pick the criterion of MIC then the SPC chart will contain values from all uses of the MIC.

Not sure what your asking.

Hi Fire Fighter,

I am using SPC feature first time in SAP QM.

Can you please guide me through the steps for SPC in SAP? Imean what are the mandatory features that i need to maintain.

Please describe features realted to Sampling procedure, MIC, Inspection plan and others.

Thanks in advance!

Previous reply from FIRE:

Requirements

You can only use control charts for inspections in which planned inspection characteristics are used and measured values are recorded (that is, the indicators inspect with inspection plan or material specification and results recording based on characteristics are set in the material master, and the control indicator for measured value recording is set in the inspection characteristic).

o You define the SPC criteria in the inspection plan characteristic

(that is, the assignment to the process).

o You define the control chart type in the sampling procedure.

When you plan the use of control charts, you must create sampling procedures with fixed samples. You can also use independent multiple samples or inspection points.

Hi Max,

What are all these chart types? What chart is generally used in process and discrete manufacturing?

for me x-bar is enough
