We recently installed a production-only BIA system, and are having some problems with load balancing (esp. in terms of memory) between blades. From documentation and discussions we have seen, it sure sounds like a landscape reorg will resolve this for us, but since no one on the support team has any experience with this tool, and since we do not have a non-production system to experiment on, we have a lot of anxiety over Pushing The Button.
With apologies for having so many questions, I am wondering...
o What are the rules-of-thumb regarding reorgs?
-
o How often should they be run?
-
o Are companies really running these on a =daily= basis?
-
o In rough terms, how long do reorgs run (seconds/minutes/hours/days)?
o What are the side effects of running reorgs?
-
o Do these reorgs disrupt data loads that run at the same time?
-
o Since we run data loads almost every hour of the day, should we run a reorg overnight and take our chances, or should we wait for a weekend?
-
o Do reorgs ever fail spectacularly, requiring re-update/re-build/restore from tape?
-
o Are there any other downside possibilities to consider?
o Are there any best-practices docs we can refer to, to help us climb the learning curve? Even modest, informal docs like daily/weekly health check lists would be tremendously helpful.
Thanks!
