How to get a specific account and it's parent account in report to be dynamic

Hello,

I'm creating a budget report and a specific user for his region uses "Summary Accounts" instead of the specific account to send his budget it. (i.e. Outside Sales Summary instead of Acct 5101, 5102, etc.). I need this report to be dynamic. I can get it to work fine when it's static, but if we add new parent accounts (with new summary accounts), I won't have to go back to the report and update it for those new accounts.

We have a summary account property in our account dimension which I thought could work by using the summary as a filter with Operating Expense (member and base level) that it would give me both the parent and summary accounts but it only gives me the summary accounts. Any suggestions on how to get both accounts to show and being dynamic?

Thanks,

Will

This is what I want it to end up looking like but being dynamic instead of being static.

This is what I thought could work for making it dynamic with the filter property for Summary accounts.

"Now if I want to suppress other accounts with 0 but not a summary acct with a parent figure that has an amount in it." - not 100% clear, but look on the test:

BS122 (without property=Y) under parent BS120 has value 7

The suppression result will be:

Only parent BS120 is shown!

BS121 (with property=Y) is empty and not shown.

P.S. You can't suppress one account based on the value of another account....

Then you have to set SUMMARY property to Y on required parents!

Test setup - show all members with property = Y under parent BS000

Result:

With suppression:

Thanks. That's what I thought. Now if I want to suppress other accounts with 0 but not a summary acct with a parent figure that has an amount in it. Do I need to use the filter tab in the EPM Report Editor?

Sorry, but I am unable to understand what are you doing!

In my test parents are: BS210 and PL100 - each having single base member with some property:

As a result, on report I see:

If I suppress empty or zero:

Test simple report and you will see!

I did test a simple report and what I sent above is what I get. I have a multiple accts with these summary acct, parent acct. and I'm trying to make this dynamic. How you have it is static, which I don't really want to do, because that would require maintenance that we don't want to do extra on.

I understand what you're doing, but how our hierarchy is set up, I'm trying to use OpExp as the account because we have sub parents where the children (summary accts) are located. This way it would be dynamic so if we add a new subparent acct and children to that parent (with a summary acct) that it would automatically go into the report with out me doing maintenance by adding it via the EPM - Report Editor.

Thanks

"So this would get me the repeating feature I would be looking for such as summary acct, parent acct, summary acct, parent acct, etc.?

Also, if I would want to suppress accounts with empty or 0 balances other than these accounts, I can just use filter it the EPM - Report Editor?" - sorry, but not clear!

Just try my sample yourself!

I gave it a try and I get the same results as before just the "summary accts". Do I need to give the parent accounts the same property as the summary accts as Y in order to get it to work the way you suggested above?

Also, my statement above was pretty clear on how would I suppress the accounts that are empty or have a 0 balance besides the summary accts and any parent accts associated with those summary accts.

Thanks

"the summary as a filter with Operating Expense (member and base level) that it would give me both the parent and summary accounts" - sorry, but parent account has no property SUMMARY=Y and condition is "AND"

You have to use 2 lines:
