Crystal Reports XI and ACL 8.4

I have started using XI to use the reporting templates derived from ACL (Data Analysis tool). Unfortunately I appear to have fallen at the first hurdle.

I have created a template in ACL with all the required data fields, and then opened the template in XI.

I dragged the required fields from the 'Field Explorer' into the 'Details' area of the 'Design' view, and formatted them to look the way I wanted (good so far).

However, when I looked at the preview of the report, I was surprised at the end result. The fields appear as expected, but instead of any data appearing in columns under the fields, all I see is either 'String' where text should be and '1.0' where numbers should be.

I can't see where it's going wrong, so any help would be appreciated.
