Help understanding support packs

Hello,

We have been asked to help in applying support packs accross our SAP enviornment. We are currently running

ECC, BI, SRM, PI/XI, solman (and portals, but thats just Java).

I have in the past implemented support packs, however, its been a while. I took a look at the systems to see whats in SPAM (current release), and

have found a TON of components listed there:

i.e. in our ECC6 system, they have, SAP_ABA, SAP_BASIS, SAP_BW, SAP_AP, SAP_APPL (which I belive are the ones we need)... they also have a lot of

components listed (such as: EA-IPPE, EA-FINSERV, EA-PS, IS-M, IS-OIL, LSOFE, and so on... the list goes on (about 40 components). Some components (such

as SAP_BW are listed in SPAM... even though its a ECC6 system (not bi).

My questions are:

1. Is there a way that I could determine what we acctually need?

2. What are the minimum components we need to update?

3. Do we also update SAP_BI in ECC, or XI (these are listed in spam)?

4. Are there any dependancies? i.e. should we update j2ee w/ any support stacks we update? or are there any components that

need to be updated (I know we do spam/saint), but Im still not able to find a step by step guide...

This will be the first time we run this since our upgraid, so any tips and help would be appriciated.

Thank you everyone!

Richard
