How to run from an Excel file

I am using an excel Workbook file that we get from a report.

I create a new connection, select Access/excel. Select database excel 8.0. database name- I select the excel Workbook file. Gets this error:

'External table is not in specified format'

What is the process to read an Excel in the Crystal reports?

Does the first row contain the field names? Can post an image of what the file looks like? Is it a .xls file or is it .xlsx? What version of crystal are you using?

THe first row is the column name.

Dell, It is SAP Crystal Reports 2016, it is the trial version. It's downloaded as Excel 97 workbook. But i same trouble when I made it an access and tried to connect in CR.
