solution manager server

Dear All,

Do we need to install 2 servers ? one as dev server & another as PRD server ? What is the perpose if we installed ?

All is upto your requirement

i have seen 3 tier landscape also for solman

its upto your requirement for eg....why u have 3 tier ECC or PI or BI landscape ....it is because of requirement

similar way if u have the requirement you can have 2-3 tier landscape for solman .

Note alway better to hav more than one solman because if u r gng for solman upgrade and uncertain of ur config in it fo CHARMS etc.....then what will happen......do u go for unlimited downtime

It depends on whihc functionality you want to use

1. For servicedesk you definatly need to install 2 servers.As all the chages can be done in 1 server abd trasport the same to Production.

2. For the Business bluprinting and creation of projetcs etc. 1 server is sufficient.

Thanks & sorry for not giving full details.

We are into CHARM implementation here, there is no service desk. Regarding this solution manager server i had a doubt. I have seen in one client they had 2 different servers for solman, where as in other client we had only one. What is the purpose & functionality of having 2 servers ? If you explain me it will be greatful.
