I'm sorry - wrong information.

The content server works solely with MaxDB - so no, no migration possible.

thanks for the information.

but if there is a tool for migration. i might take another senario and use the archivelink to connect to MSSQL and use it as a storage for DMS.

don't you think this is possible?

There is no tool for the migration to another database. The mentioned tool (loadercli) is part of the MaxDB database.

You can, however, migrate to a flat file webserver instead of using a database:

thats excelant

then let's come with a solution for that.

acording to the sap note you have mintioned. i can create another repository connected to MSSQL. then i'll relocate the content of the repository from Content server repository to MSSQL repository.

No!

There is no interface for the webserver to connect to a MSSQL database.

Just out of interest:

Why do you want to move from MaxDB to MSSQL Server for a content server database?

Just to clarify: Our concern is not about Content Server, it is about MaxDB.

The only usage for MaxDB is to be used to store DMS Originals, which are the files inside DMS DIR. the rest of the infrastructure is using MSSQL (Microsoft exchange, MS DC, MS AD, Helpdesk, SAP, Sharepoint, SAP Portal).

also when talking about enterprise monitoring we have to get two license for MSSQL and MaxDB.

for Backup agents we need to get two license for MSSQL & MaxDB.

Maintenance, Operation, Updates, administration, will be twice for MSSQL & MaxDB.

not mentioning that the licenses for MaxDB with Third Parties is much much expensive than MSSQL license.

since the only usage for MaxDB is as DMS storage, so why not to migrate it to MSSQL and unify our infrastructure.

please share your thought if there is a way to use MSSQL for DMS instead of MaxDB

I understand your arguments - but there is no possibility to install a content server on MS-SQL.

You have two options to install a content server:

- with a database backend - only MaxDB is supported

- using flat files on a webserver.

as per my knowladge that content server is not a must to run DMS.

so the scenario i have came up with, is to create a repository with RFC connection as ArchiveLink to MSSQL. and use it as DMS repository.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/ed/cefa3882cd8229e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm

then relocate all Content Server repository content to it

SAP Note : 688241

anyway is it a close to a solution?

Correct, but the MaxDB license and the resulting maintenance fees are lower than for MSSQL.

Don't know what backup agents you use - but the standard interface programs for ADSM, Networker etc. work with MaxDB.

The overall effort for MaxDB is usually less than for MSSQL.

?? What are you talking about here?

MaxDB comes for free in the Community Edition.

As Markus already said with Content Server it's either database storage (MaxDB) or Filesystem.

No offense sir.

I didnu2019t come here to evaluate which one is better, or to convince me that MaxDB is better.

i'm not evaluating and I have no right to judge, i'm just answering your question. There are a lot of analysis companies that has this kind of statistic and they are expert in this area.

What concern me is that I have a company requirement, regardless of what is the best scenario or usage.

thanks for the information you have provided and your efforts

NO offence taken.

I was also not into advertising MaxDB, but only interested in the reasoning behind the decision.

Check

Note 962019 - System copy of MaxDB Content Server Storage

you'll need to do the "loadercli" migration.
