How to backup and recover JAVA INSTANCE

Hi Gurus, Please tell me how to backup and recover java instance. There a lot of files need to be back up for it. i am not sure which file. Can i just back up the Entire USR folder for it. How do i recover the java instance. can i just replace the file or recover using sapinst. please guide me through step by step. thanks.
