importance of catalogs assigned in qs21

Hi, pls advise what is the importance of assigning catalogs in qs21? where this selected sets and defect codes will be used? i am trying to use this defect code during creation of notification thru creation of defect (thru qa32), but system is not showing the defect code assigned in qs21.

Hi,

In QS21 selected set are required when you are creating qualatitave charecteristic.( MIC in which when you take result their is no value for EX -in process industry suppose you want to observe appearence in this case you can create codes like colorless ,clear .with blcak particle. also create code like rejected ,or accepted ubder deviation.

You can assign this codes to selection set .

Then during crete MIC as Appearence ( qualatitive ) select same set.

So during result record you can select as per your requirement if coloreless you can select same or you want to reject you can select rejected .

IN QS21 only it can be usefull for qualitative MIC.

(IN QS51 selected set select catalog 1 & your plant nuber.)

Importance of assigning catalogs in QS12 :

For Qualitative characteristics we define the code groups and selected sets. So when you assign this code group while making MIC (QS21), system will not ask you again this data while making Quality plan. These selected sets are used while result recording and defect codes used while filling defect Notification.

Ex. If 'color' is an qualitative charact. the codes may be Red, Yellow, blue, green------- etc, now you will valuate this in selected sets. When you do all this and assign MIC in Quality plan, during RR system gives drop down menu for entering qualitative results.

For attribute characteristics : maintain '1' catalog.

For defect codes : maintain in '9' catalog, if you maintain defects here then only you will see defects while doing notification.

Hi, in "item over view" of defect creation screen of qa32, it is not showing any defect groups even though in catalog grp 9, contains certain codes. pls advise.

if u want to create attribute characteristic just create catalog and and selected set those selected set assigned to the respective qualitative characteristic

if u want to assigned defect code in mic before u have to create 9 type catalog no need of selected set then assign the qs21 those defect codes

if u want to check usage decision code just create 3 type catalog and same create selected set it will reflect in usage decision screen
