I am not sure why this is the case.

when I click on F4 on customer field and get the results back , scrolling thorough the output is very slow( scroll 20 lines but doesn't change until I stop scrolling , then 1~2 seconds later the changes are reflected. (Screen shot 1)

But when I am on the output screen, scrolling is pretty fast (ALV)even with large amount of data.( Text output is extremely slow too)

Hello Juan,

You can try using the ALV scrolling on demand, which might influence in the performance.

You can read SAP note 1759724 to know the involved parameters.

SAP note 2041946 is more recent and specify a few changes in the behavior.

Kind regards,

Cris

thanks chris

I have added the parameter but there is no difference. This problem occurs only on the search ( not on the ALV output)

Is this the right place to add it?

we are on kernel 7.45

Hello Juan,

We have the same problem with ALV grids in Web GUI and Screen Personas when dealing with large amount of data. Were you able to find a solution to your performance issues?

Thanks,

Mohamed

Hello Juan,

If the number of returned results is restricted to 100 - does this lead to much better performance?

Issue here looks to be the number of results returned.

Can you tell us more about your Kernel & Support pack levels.

To determine the Web Application Server's Kernel Patch Level,

SAP_BASIS Support Package Level

System > Status, buttons "Other kernel info. (F5)" and "Component information"

Restricting the output to 100 doesn't change anything. The effects are the same as mentioned above. To explain further , single scroll down click shows the hours glass before displaying the data. It seems that the system is trying to retrieve the data from the backed even for a single row scroll down.

I feel like F4 is not caching the output. The ALV output seem to be caching the data up to certain size so it scrolls quickly until we hit a certain amount and goes back to the backed(hour glass) and retrieves a predetermined size of data
