AA262 - Cannot change Dep Areas ... Deactivating a Dep Key

Hopefully someone can advise re the below...

We have an error on one Asset that has 'Apparently' been an issue for two years - our Capital Accountants have managed to change the periods on an Asset - we cannot make out how but we are now unable to change the dep key on said asset or enter a new interval. We have had a consultant look at it, and look some more ! and cannot find a solution. We have checked the Perfy table and can see the problem but we are unsure of how to fix it.We currently have two Asset Fiscal years open and obviously will be unable to open 2010/2011 come April 1st unless we can figure out how to run full depreciation and also close old fiscal year (2008/09).

On further investigation and a 'little' playing in the sandpit - I was able to Deactivate the Dep Key - Change the dep key interval on the Asset - then change the Dep Key back to active. In order for us to test this completely before going live with this solution we need to be able to deactivate the dep key in our customizing client and test.

Any ideas on how to deacitvate the dep key in customizing? or maybe another solution to fix the problem?
