Variants Missing after Transport

Hi Gurus -

I enhanced existing Report by adding new Variables to existing one and changing on of the varibale from regular Characterist Value Variable (Multiple, Optional) ( Tech name: ZCHARVAR) to Heirachy Variable ( ZHIERVAR).

My user had varinat for the InfoObject when the varibale was Characterist Value Variable (Multiple, Optional) ( Tech name: ZCHARVAR). But when I changed it and send the transport to Production, the variant is there but not populating the variable field for that that specfic info Object.

My queation is: For the same InfoObject - when we change the variable type does it automatically migrate? Is there any procedure to do it? If I want to get the variants for my user what should I do?

I checked the table RSRVARIANT, RSRVARIANTDIR, RSRVARIANTTXT and they are empty.
